I am nearing completion of an application for OS X that I've been cooking up in my spare time (which is, admittedly, quite a bit recently). :) I hope to make it more then solid since I intend to release it as shareware, charging something like $7 for a registered copy that will provide access to all of the features.
To further this goal I'd like to extend invitations to anyone out there who would like to help me beta test the software. Any participants will get a free copy of the full version when it's complete plus my eternal gratitude! Perhaps a beer or two if you live close. All it entails is just trying out the software and reporting any problems you see with it; design problems/bugs/complaints or otherwise. Please email me if you are interested. You must be running Panther (OS version 10.3).
What's the software? It's a simple scrolling text application called FeedTicker that sits on your desktop and scrolls RSS news items whenever they are updated. Here's a screenshot. Fonts, colors (transparency!), speed, position and many other options can all be manipulated through a preference pane.
I'm currently trying to compile Subversion on my linux box to use as a repository for my work. Since I'm almost done it seemed like the logical time to do it. ;) Well, I haven't really been compiling it, I've just been trying to get the damn ./configure script to recognize that I've installed the database it's dependant on. It's driving me up the wall. At least on my Mac laptop I can use Fink to install the client and it sorts out the dependances for me, buzzes along and compiles them all like a trooper. I love Fink and would like to recommend it to all of my friends. I recently read someone's blog describing the dependancy headache as the major con balancing out the pros of subversion (I can't freakin find the entry though, hmm maybe it's time to actually pony up the dough for NetNewsWire or PulpFiction for that matter).
