OK, I just read about these eBay auctions on a comment on Slashdot.

It is somewhat disturbing to me. This internet is a very strange place.

I wonder why guys would go in for this sort of thing?

1. I can sort of buy the idea of getting people off your back. I can imagine a situation where a guy's parents are being really pushy, and especially if the guy was far far back in the closet.

2. More plausible is the idea that the horny guy just wants to "get" the girl. Most of the women in those pictures are pretty hot. Must be pretty desperate if match.com doesn't work for them.

3. A more interesting idea might be that the guy just wants attention from a pretty girl. Nice mushy letters from your "girlfriend" is an ego boost, although quite hollow in this case. It paints a pretty lonely picture.

I think the most interesting aspect of this whole thing is the women themselves. Well that's considering that they are women, it's entirely possible it's some fat dude with excellent handwriting and cutesy stationary. Assuming that it is an actual woman on the other end what she's doing at worst is emotional prostitution, at best she's taking advantage of some guy.

In any case I find it completely bizarre.

In other news tonight is my last night in my Westwood apartment. Tomorrow morning the movers are coming to take all of the big stuff to my new digs. I'm spending today taking apart all of my bits in preparation. I'm full of all kinds of emotion about but a large part of it is excitement for new things.
